She Made: Asos Copycat Dress

Wow, its been a long time since I've been on my blog. I guess it is the same for everyone at this time of the year. Everyone is just rushing for Christmas. Frankly, I have not been near my sewing machine. Life just happens and hobbies just have to wait. But I have projects mulling in mind.

Let me share one dress that I finish recently. It is not "ready-to-wear" yet as I am still stuck with the armholes. In picture it looks awkward and I have thought about re-doing it. But when worn it seem to be ok. I guess this is one of the perils of not following any patterns nor using at least a muslin for trials. :x

This is again made from an old men's shirt. It seems that I am not getting low on supply. (Thank you dear husband)

She Made: A Purple Backless Dress

My husband went shopping.

To some, events like that does not merit any mentioning. But my case is different. See, my husband has this weird way of acquiring his clothes. While I would have tiny purchases every month (read: less than 50€) he, on the other hand, can last a year without buying anything. Then a certain day will come and he will drop serious money buying clothes. He will buy two of the same things which definitely weirds me out. This massive shopping often leads to a closet purge to give space for his new stuff. And this is my early christmas.

Out of the recent closet purge, I got a Gap chambray shirt, a Blanc et Bleu sweatshirt and a purple men's shirt. The first two I resized and retained the original form. The purple shirt became a dress.

BEFORE: An XL size men's shirt.

AFTER: A short backless dress.

Here is the back view.

As much as I would love for this to be a tutorial post. It won't be possible as I did everything guerilla style (not following any directions). I just hope that this give a bit of an idea what you can do with an old shirt. :) Hint: Do not throw it away. Reuse or donate it.

Welcome Back!

My confidence had been in a repair shop for a while. I am talking about the sewing machine of course. The real confidence is still there, I think...

My sewing machine had finally gave up and shown signs of my abuse. It stopped working quite right. It sews but it makes a slight vibration on the feed dog and a not so right rattling sound. For a while I tried to not think about it and hope that if I let it rest for a while it will heal itself. Or so I wish. So I took it to the Singer Repair store and had them tinker with my machine a bit. The tinkering cost 200€. Yes 200 mother-effing euros. 

But I guess thats how it is. In any case... Welcome back my dear sewing machine! May you have a long working year again!

She Made: Myrtos Project

Last month ago I was contracted by a friend for a project. And this is by far my biggest client yet...

Meet Myrtos, a friend's boat. I was asked to make a tarp for it. He told me that a professional tarp maker  charges about 800 euros for this kind of work and he would like for me to do it. Crazy as I was, I said yes. Never mind that I do not know how to make tarps. I cannot say no to a challenge. 

After one week, 12 meters of fabric, 10 pattern pieces, a bowl of rice and a bottle of red wine, I present my first ever boat tarp.

I had fun doing this. It was not easy but it was fun. I hope it lasts...
